Financial trends and gold ownership |

Here is a summary of the current financial state of the USA and the world, and how it relates to the ownership of gold. One interesting comment is that those who bought gold a few years ago to a recommended level of 10% - 30% of their assets when it cost $250-$300 an ounce are now doing pretty well, with gold today at about $1000 an ounce and likely to stay there. Of course, part of the rise in the gold price is due to the current weakness of the US dollar, and the rise in gold is not so dramatic when the price expressed in other currencies. However, I watch the movements of the prices for gold coins on non-US auction sites, and they are also moving up relentlessly. Another fact to note which is explored in the article is the comparison between gold and the stock market. Since 1970 the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 1251%. In the same period gold rose 2651%.
