Why your gold coins might have red spots PDF Print E-mail

If you have noticed tiny red spots, red dots or reddish marks on your gold coins, Goldismoney has an interesting thread explaining what the red spots are, where they come from, which types of gold coins are more prone to have them, and what to do about the spots if they bother you.

The helpful contributors have also put up many images showing the red spots on their own gold coins.

Like may collectors, I have noticed these spots and wondered if they would devalue the coins when the time comes to sell them, but it appears that most dealers and buyers are not concerned with this.

Posters say that the red spots never appear on Krugerrands, due to the way they are produced, and from checking my own collection this appears to be true.
